Mixed Media Paintings Artist Statement: My canvases are intimate setting for which to place found objects or paint patterns from nature and light. Patterns make up what we see as human beings. I use patterns as references for my compositions, color palette, and the textures that I replicate. The found objects that I use make my paintings real. Art to me is about the creative process. The simple routine of making each painting is what is important. Building stretchers, stretching canvas, applying gesso, drawing on the canvas, applying texture, paint, moving the paint around and assembling objects. My inspiration comes from all that is around me. The projects I teach my students, what I see on television, things I read, and the simple visual stimulus of every day life. Sometimes my ideas do not even have an explanation or source that is identifiable.
